How do I get a library card?

Just come to any of our libraries and fill out and sign an application. All you will need is a photo ID with your current address. You can also register online and then bring your ID to the Library and your card will be ready.

Anyone over 5 may get a library card. However, children under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present identification and fill out and sign the application.

Library cards are free to residents of Adams and Wilkinson counties. Others pay a $10 annual fee. First time users of a library card are restricted to checking out two items. Once those items are returned, all privileges are available.

If you lose your library card, report it immediately so no one can use it. There is a $2 charge to replace your card.

How many items may I borrow and for how long?

Books

You may check out up to 15 books, with no more than 3 by the same author or 3 on the same subject. You may check out books for two weeks and may renew them once.

You may renew books in person, by phone, or online.

You may not renew a New Book, a book that is overdue, or one that someone else has requested be placed on hold.

At times, due to school assignments or other events, books on a subject or by an author may be restricted to one or two with no renewals.

Certain books and tapes can only be checked out by leaving a cash deposit.

Videos/DVDs and Books on Tape/CD

You may check out only three at a time. Videos/DVDs are checked out for 2 days, and books on tape/CD for 2 weeks.

VideosDVDs and tapes/CDs may not be renewed or placed on hold. You are asked to please rewind videos and tapes before returning them. Please do not return them in the Bookdrop or leave them in a hot vehicle.

What privileges does a visitor receive?

Basically, visitors have all the same privileges and responsibilities that a library card holder has except they cannot check out any items. However, they may use any of our materials in the library. Visitors may use the computers for free, but they must present a picture ID and obtain a visitor's card. They may also use our wireless service for their personal laptops.
